After graduating from Pope Saint John XXIII National Seminary, Fr. Brian O'Shaughnessy was ordained to the priesthood in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah on June 4, 2016. His first assignment as a priest was as the Parochial Vicar at St. Anne Catholic Church in Columbus, where he also served on the faculty of St. Anne-Pacelli High School, teaching Moral Theology. Fr. Brian next served on the faculty at Aquinas High School in Augusta, teaching Scripture, Moral Theology, Theology, and Honors Theology. While teaching at Aquinas High School, he spent three of his summers at Creighton University studying for and receiving the Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction and Directed Retreats. Prior to becoming the Pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church, Fr Brian served as the parish's Parochial Administrator. Fr. Brian was installed as the Pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church on November 20, 2022, the Feast of Christ the King, by Bishop Stephen Parkes. On January 1, 2023, Bishop Parkes appointed Fr. Brian to serve as the Vocations Promoter for the Columbus Deanery.
Fr. Madden was born in Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland. After completing college and seminary at St. Patrick's Colledge, Carlow, Ireland. He immigrated to the United States in August of that year and reported to the Bishop of Savannah. He served parishes in Albany, Savannah, and Augusta, Georgia. Fr. Madden became a U.S. citizen in 1976.
He was then commissioned a Lieutenant in the United States Navy on June 25, 1976. He served as a chaplain with Marine Corps Infantry Units in Okinawa, Japan and Camp Pendleton, CA. Other duty stations included China Lake and the Amphibious Base at Coronado, home of the U.S. Navy SEAL Training. He also served at Rota, Spain, UCLA, on board the USS Constellation, in Newport, Rhode Island, London, England, and San Diego, CA. Fr. Madden retired as a Captain in 1999.
Upon retirement from the Navy, he returned to the Diocese of Savannah at the Bishop’s request. He served at St. Anne Church in Columbus and at Pacelli High School from 1999 to 2001. He then began serving the mission church of Christ the King in Pine Mountain.
Christ the King Catholic Church was established as a parish and Fr. Madden was made the founding Pastor on November 26, 2007. Fr. Madden retired on June 30, 2022 and currently serves as Christ the King's Pastor Emeritus.
